BC Timber Sales seeks a registered professional wildlife biologist to provide field identification, written assessments, reports and management recommendations in the Seaward (tlasta) Business Area (Great Bear Rainforest and North Vancouver Island). Work covers identification and advice for bears, raptors, herons, amphibians, bats, deer/elk, mountain goat, pileated woodpecker nesting trees and ecological plant communities.
From the notice
The proposed contract is for Wildlife Biologist Services in the Great Bear Rainforest (GBR) and North Vancouver Island operating areas within the BCTS Seaward (tlasta) Business Area. The registered professional biologist will provide field identification of species, associated wildlife features and ecological plant communities, and will provide written assessment or report, and management recommendations when requested. This work is often required when we encounter black bear or grizzly bear den(s), GBR grizzly bear habitat, goshawk nest(s) or sightings, eagle nest(s), heron nest(s) or a species that we do not have prior experience managing. Other species that we may encounter that could require a registered biologist are amphibians, bats, deer, elk, heron, mountain goat, and pileated woodpecker nesting tree. In addition, the biologist will require knowledge for helping with identification of coastal animals and birds not listed above and knowledge of ecological plant communities.
